Corporate Offices, Niles, Oh 44446
Developed as part of an effort to address the expanding opportunities within the existing Eastwood Mall Complex, the new corporate offices for the Cafaro Company provided a unique opportunity to consolidate workspaces and enhance the user environment.
Focusing on the need to provide a workplace that incorporated an appealing environment that was also flexible and capable of accommodating the companies evolving needs, The Cafaro Company identified an underutilized portion of the existing mall complex to relocate their national headquarters. The site, which was limited by existing retail and hospitality facilities, provided for a challenging layout that, as part of the facility masterplan, was developed to utilize the new offices as a connection between the existing mall, the new office facility and an existing hotel complex. Access was also to be provided for the development of a new conference and expo center that would utilize part of the common areas of the new office complex for both access and registration.
Phillips|Sekanick Architects was engaged to work with the management of the Cafaro Company in creating an addition that recognized both the functional and aesthetic criteria of the building program. The design team worked with the client to develop spaces to house the more than 200 employees while at the same time creating a unique environment to accommodate user as well as public access. The new facility, with more than 50,000 square feet of office space was designed to provide an open office environment while at the same time, creating memorable public spaces that connected the numerous parts of the transitioning retail complex. The three story office facility utilizes an open, multistory space to connect the various parts of the expanded complex. The naturally lit offices wrap two sides of the public space that is the visual center of the new building from which the other areas of complex radiate. The wide corridors and tall ceilings create an open environment that makes the building appear much larger than the actual area of the structure. Finished with a mix of complementary materials, the interior environment compliments the exterior while at the same time, promotes the aesthetic connection of the various parts into a single complex.
The result of this new, open, mixed use space is an environment that is as inviting as it is functional. The project successfully addresses the workplace needs of the corporate staff while at the same time, addressing the need to focus on the evolving mixed use of the traditional mall complex.
